Tiers of Temptation

Acrylic Painting on Canvas

Tiers of Temptation - Art Classes for Kids

During this project, the young artists explored a variety of acrylic techniques, allowing them to create their own delightful and colourful ice cream cone masterpieces with an impressionistic and whimsical style.

  • Layering and Blending: The kids painted the ice cream tiers with acrylics using multiple layers. They blended colours to achieve the desired shades. They started with the green-blue tier, followed by purple, pink-red, and finally, the light pink with the cherry on top. Each layer was allowed to dry before applying the next.

  • Texturing: The children created a creamy, scoop-like texture for the ice cream tiers using palette knives or the back of their brushes.

  • Colour Mixing: They mixed colours to achieve the specific shades of the ice cream. For example, they combined blue and green to get green-blue and red and white to create pink.

  • Gradient Background: The young artists created a gradient background by blending light blue into lighter blue and white. This technique produced a soft, pastel sky-like background.

  • Splatter Technique: They employed the splatter technique for the background sprinkles. Kids dipped old toothbrushes or stiff brushes into various bright and warm colours, creating a splatter effect by running their fingers or a tool across the bristles.

  • Dripping Paint: Darker blue was used to create the drips coming down from the top of the painting. The technique involves loading a pipette with paint and gently allowing the paint to drip onto the canvas.

  • Pattern on Cone: The children added dark brown lines to symbolise the pattern on the cone using cardboard squares.

  • Shading and Highlighting: Kids added shading to create depth and highlights to give volume to the ice cream tiers and the cone.

  • Creativity and Imagination: The young artists were encouraged to embrace their creativity by adding extra details, such as a cherry on top, chocolate syrup, or any other elements that made their paintings unique.
